Online casino rules in Ontario

Elements Casino Brantford at 40 Icomm Drive is a land-based casino, run by Great Canadian Entertainment. Online play in Ontario has its own rules, and this page sets them out in plain words.

How the online market works

Ontario's regulated online gambling market opened on April 4, 2022. iGaming Ontario conducts and manages it. The AGCO regulates it.

A private online casino is legal in Ontario only under two conditions. It needs AGCO registration, and it needs an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. One without the other is not enough. iGaming Ontario keeps a directory of regulated sites at igamingontario.ca, and anyone can check an operator there.

OLG.ca works a little differently. It is the online casino of OLG, the provincial agency, rather than a private operator. The age and location rule is the same for every site. Players must be 19 or older, and they must be physically in Ontario while they play. A Brantford resident on a trip to another province cannot play on these sites from there.

Opting out of online play

BetGuard, at betguard.ca, has been run by iGaming Ontario since May 14, 2026. One exclusion through BetGuard covers every regulated Ontario online gambling site, OLG.ca included. A person can choose a term of 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or a custom length.

Land-based casinos are outside BetGuard, including the one on Icomm Drive. For casinos, OLG's My PlayBreak lets a person exclude themselves for 3 or 6 months or 1 to 5 years. A casino break bars entry to any Ontario casino and cannot be cancelled early. Enrolment goes through the OLG Support Centre at 1-800-387-0098, staff on site, or a PlaySmart Centre.

How this guide is paid

This guide is not a casino and takes no bets. Paid links appear on the home page only, each marked Ad. There are three: a button in the menu, a block below the first screen and one near the end. All three point to one private online casino partner, which pays the guide a commission.

The links are for adults physically located in Ontario only. The partner is not OLG.ca, and it has no connection with Elements Casino Brantford, Great Canadian, OLG, iGaming Ontario, the AGCO or any help service. None of them pays this guide. The partner is not named on any page, and it can change. Anyone can check an operator in iGaming Ontario's directory.

Is online casino play legal in Ontario?
Yes, on regulated sites. A private online casino needs AGCO registration and an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. OLG.ca is the online casino of OLG, the provincial agency.
How old must a player be?
A player must be 19 or older and physically in Ontario while playing. The 18+ rule applies to lottery tickets alone, not to casino play.
Does BetGuard cover the casino on Icomm Drive?
No, it does not. BetGuard covers regulated Ontario online sites, OLG.ca included, but not land-based casinos. Casino exclusions go through OLG's My PlayBreak instead.
Why does the home page carry Ad links?
The guide earns a commission from one private online casino partner through those links. They are for adults physically located in Ontario. The partner is not named on any page and can change.
